St James College Bentleigh East, is a Regional Catholic Boys' College offering tuition to students from Year 7 to 10.

Founded in 1970, the College caters for the needs of students living in the surrounding parishes. The present enrolment is 464 students. We consider that the motto ‘Unity in Christ’ is a stimulus for all, not only the young men of St James College, but all associated with the College, and all involved in the ‘Human and Christian education’ offered at St James College.

The College shares in the Lasallian Charism attributed to the the De La Salle Brothers, a Community of Religious men founded in France by St John Baptist De La Salle for the education of the poor. The Brothers educational works are found in over 80 countries with 20 schools in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea being staffed by Brothers and their Lasallian Partners As a Lasallian College, we have a strong association and partnership with our brother Colleges to provide a pathway for our students from Year 7 through to Year 12. This enables our students to enjoy a smaller more personal setting with a focus on Boys’ Education while in the important and formative middle years of their schooling, and then to progress to a larger setting for their senior studies.

Our students transition through to Year 11 and 12 well prepared, and enjoy high levels of success in their studies and involvements given the grounding and preparation provided at St James College.

From Years 7 – 10, students are provided with the fundamentals of literacy, numeracy, science and humanities.

Our teachers across each year cater for all levels of abilities and interest. More able students are identified in year 7 and year 8 and are challenged to extend their knowledge through various programs. We run a number of programs to extend our students through our advanced subjects: Accelerated Mathematics and Science programs, Language and Literature electives and our special interest clubs – Public Speaking, Debating, Chess, Art, Drama and Music. On the other hand, The Student Services Team supports the students of St James College, who may require additional support.

A major component of the Department is to support the students who receive funding from the Catholic Education Melbourne.
