New principal for Siena College

The Siena College Board of Directors has announced that Elizabeth Hanney has been appointed as the next Principal of Siena College in Melbourne, commencing in January 2020.

Mrs Hanney has significant experience in educational leadership. Currently in her sixth year as Principal of Ave Maria College, Mrs Hanney has worked in Catholic Education and Diocesan roles for the past 26 years.

Prior to her Principalship, Mrs Hanney held the position of Deputy Principal Staff (Learning and Teaching) at St Peter’s College, Cranbourne, in addition to successfully leading across the wellbeing, teaching and learning and administrative portfolios in a range of Catholic schools.

Along with the Board of Dominican Education Australia, the Siena College Board of Directors said it looks forward with confidence to supporting Mrs Hanney as she further develops the legacy that has been built by current principal Gaynor Robson-Garth over the last 13 years.

Mrs Hanney added she was delighted to be joining the Siena community in 2020, as the College celebrates its 80th anniversary. “Siena College has a rich Catholic Dominican heritage, a reputation for educational excellence and a strong commitment to social justice.

I look forward to building on the work of those who have gone before me as I learn more about the Siena story,” she said.

“The grace and spirit of the Dominican tradition is something I will treasure, having come to know the beauty of a faith community steeped in its particular charism. A Dominican education which fosters a commitment to truth seeking, justice, contemplation and care for the dignity of all is foundational, I believe, to the pursuit of excellence in learning and in life.”
