Meriden has a proud record of consistently strong academic performance. Every year Meriden ranks among the top independent girls’ schools in the NSW Higher School Certificate, with students consistently featuring on the HSC All-Round Achievers’ List. Meriden girls are often in the top five placings in the state in a particular subject, putting them among the state’s elite academic achievers. The results of younger students in external literacy and numeracy testing far surpass the state average and their performance in state-wide individual subject competitions is equally as impressive.
Meriden’s university entry levels are consistently high. Each year approximately 94% of Meriden graduates take up university offers at Sydney’s top universities as well as prominent interstate and overseas universities. While academic success is the foundation of the education at Meriden, experiences in the performing arts, sport and numerous cocurricular activities provide a complete education. During their years at Meriden all girls develop a comprehensive portfolio of achievement in a range of areas, along with a compelling record of service to their community.
Meriden has a thriving Music department which aims to foster a love of music in every student and develop the skills of talented young musicians. Meriden’s musicians have performed for audiences in Europe and Asia to resounding ovation. They consistently place amongst the top performers in competitions such as the Sydney Eisteddfod.
Meriden girls are given the opportunity to participate in a vast array of sports, and have represented Australia at international level in athletics, swimming, water polo and tennis.
Meriden girls also make their mark in activities such as public speaking, debating, outdoor education, and social justice initiatives.
Meriden is renowned for its commitment to developing well-rounded young women who are confident, articulate and generous leaders, well-equipped to become courageous and innovative leaders of the future.
The curriculum at Meriden is designed to cater for a range of ability levels and interests, and to prepare students for their studies in Years 11 and 12. The curriculum provides a wide range of choice and variety.
Students with high academic ability are supported through a differentiated curriculum and through grouping in classes which cater for advanced learners.
For girls who are elite sportswomen, assistance is provided through the Olympus program and for our outstanding young musicians, the Amadeus program is designed to assist in maintaining a balance between academic work and the cultivation of their talent.
